If you’ve been wondering about this second prolonged silence here it’s because I’ve been working on a new WordPress version of my popular art and lifestyle tumblr – The Astonishing Post.
What is The Astonishing Post you ask? Well, I think the best way to explain that is by simply quoting the about page I have up on the new site:
The Astonishing Post (TAP for short) is a curatorial effort that began on Tumblr in the fall of 2010 when I started blogging regularly for the popular design blog Abduzeedo. I needed a place to save all of the interesting and inspiring art I was sorting through as I created posts there. Slowly, TAP took on a life of its own and I began to take it more and more seriously as a sort of online stream of consciousness art & lifestyle magazine.
Eventually I had around 3,000 followers there and decided it was time to see what else I could do with it. I wanted to provide a much better navigation experience, more in-depth material, guided learning courses, launch some ezines and a whole slew of stuff that Tumblr just isn’t made for. So I began looking into WordPress.
This site is the result.
My goal here is to create a sort of mashup between the material you’d expect to find on most popular art and design blogs with the educational/curatorial efforts of sites like Open Culture, TED, and Brain Pickings. If all goes well, spending time here will be like getting a free education in just about any sub-discipline of the visual arts.
Feel free to visit TAP today :)
Best,
Nathan B Weller
